Job Description: Production Manager – Pinetown
 Job Summary
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager oversees all aspects of the production process in the manufacturing facility and oversees about 70 employees. This includes managing resources, ensuring efficient production schedules, maintaining quality standards, and optimizing processes to meet business goals. The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality corrugated products on time and within budget.
 
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Planning and Execution
    • Develop, implement, and manage production schedules to meet customer demands and delivery deadlines.
    • Ensure optimal use of manpower, materials, and machinery to achieve efficiency.
    • Collaborate with the sales, logistics, and procurement teams to align production plans with customer orders and material availability.
    • Ensuring there is adequate raw materials, inks, dye’s on hand for all planned jobs.
 
2. Operations Management
    • Oversee day-to-day production activities, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to schedules.
    • Monitor all machine performance and production output, taking corrective actions when necessary.
    • Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize production processes.
    • Inventory management for raw materials, WIP and finished goods. Ensuring there is no shortage of raw materials and all WIP have been completed on the respective dates.
    • Review and ensure time sheets are signed by production supervisors and the correct outputs have been achieved. And taking corrective action if necessary.
 
3. Quality Control
    • Ensure that all products meet customer specifications and industry standards.
    • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to identify and resolve quality issues promptly.
    • Monitor and enforce adherence to quality control procedures throughout the production process.
 
4. Equipment and Maintenance Management
    • Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure regular servicing and minimize downtime.
    • Monitor the condition and performance of production equipment, addressing issues proactively.
    • Recommend investments in new machinery or upgrades to enhance production capabilities.
 
5. Health, Safety, and Compliance
    • Enforce compliance with health and safety regulations in all production activities.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and ensure all staff follow safety protocols.
    • Maintain compliance with environmental and industry-specific regulations.
    • Adhere to all company policies and regulations including maintaining the 5 S housekeeping standard. Disciplinary action to be taken for non-adherence.
 
6. Team Leadership and Development
    • Supervise, train, and motivate the production team to achieve performance targets.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching to improve skills and productivity.
    • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
    • Performing detailed KPI assessments with staff on a monthly basis.
 
7. Reporting and Analysis
    • Prepare and present production reports, including efficiency, output, and quality metrics.
    • Analyze production data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
Provide input for budgeting and cost control efforts.

8am to 17:45 (Mon-Thurs)
8am to 12:30 (Fri)
