Malcolm Gladwell tells the world that it takes 10 000 hours for a person to become a world expert in your field. How do you rate? Are you an expert in your field? Can you stand up for an hour and address an audience with authority on your subject / career / passion?
I agree with the statement “You will never out-earn your learning”. Keep learning and developing yourself, no matter what your age or what stage of life you are in. The more you learn, develop and grow, the higher your earning potential will be. What skills do you lack that are holding you back? Work on them and aim to be recognized as a master in your field.
The difference between where you are today and where you will be in 5 years’ time depends on who you spend time with, the books you read and the seminars you will attend. Every year, make a list of the books you would like to read that will grow you. Attend seminars that motivate you and equip you with information and inspiration from the brightest minds in your industry and the thought leaders.
How many great books have you read this year? What seminars have you attended in order to grow your knowledge and skills? Is there an expert that you can spend an hour with in order to learn from someone who has walked the road before you? Be humble and sit at the feet of the masters and you will soon learn some valuable life lessons.
I am inspired by the saying, “Be so good at one thing that when people think of you, they think of that one thing”.
