The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the full performance level duties in the day-to-day datacenter operations including receiving, installing, and configuring servers, storage, and network hardware.
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of data Center infrastructure, ensuring high availability, reliability, and security of critical systems and services housed within.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- To ensure upkeep and maintenance of existing VMWare Virtualization Clusters, VxRrail and EMC Storage Platforms.
- Support and maintenance for over 2000 VM’s, Storage Provisioning & Administration of various Storage Platforms (VxRail, EMC VNX, EMC UNITY, Dell MD).
- Responsible for configuring, monitoring, and maintaining Veeam backup jobs and remote replications.
- Responsible for maintain production systems to 99.98% SLA.
- Virtualization and Storage Management
- Horizon Broker Connection Server administration and VDI Support.
- Design and implement data center infrastructure to meet current and future business needs.
- Implement and manage high availability and disaster recovery solutions to ensure the continuity of critical systems and services.
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation of the data center infrastructure and operations
- Grow, mentor, and upskill the team on technical and management skills.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for data center-related issues
- Work closely with other IT teams and departments to support the overall IT strategy and business goals
- Drive cost management and savings initiatives to reduce overall IT operating expenses and improve profitability.
- License and Vendor management.
- Assist in the cost planning and execution of data center-related projects, including migrations, upgrades, and expansions
- Implementing effective measures to protect systems and applications.
- Documentation and topology diagrams.
- Help implement and improve customer Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) including regular backup and recovery activities for large data sets as well as disaster planning
- Defines and provides the required authoritative processes.
- Provider of advice and guidance to the IT Engineering Team.
- Responsible for the Data Centre Service Management for all the company’s data centers, across all geography’s
Requirements
- Tertiary IT related Degree or Diploma
- Cloud Certifications AWS/ Azure
- Dell VxRail Certifications (Deploy and Manage)
- 5+ Years’ experience in Information Technology.
- Experience with IT design strategies and techniques.
- In-depth knowledge of data center infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, and power/cooling systems.
- Exposure to Public, Private, and Hybrid Cloud platforms.
- Relevant certifications such as VMware VCP, CompTIA Server+, Storage Skills
- Data Centre’s Infrastructure and Hyperconverged technologies experience.
- Hands-on experience with DELL, HPE, Lenovo and Nutanix infrastructure.
- Understanding of ITIL processes and procedures.
- Ability to simplify virtualized configurations in attempt to reduce complexity in designs.
- Excellent knowledge of Enterprise VMWare Virtualized Environments with a Min of 5 years’ experience in the Field.
- Experience in being “the last line of defence” when it comes to resolving incidents and in-depth project challenges.
- Must have a strong sense of ownership and can handle multiple work streams simultaneously.
- Knowledge and Experience of the following:
- Virtualization with VMware ESXI, vSphere & vCenter.
- Fibre Channel Storage
- EMC SAN Administration (VxRail, VNX, Unity)
- Dell / Nutanix infrastructure.
- Remote Monitoring and Automation Tools
- Backup, Replication and Disaster Recovery
- Windows Server Roles and Services (AD, DNS, DHCP, GPO, CA)
